Put It Back Martha Dead at Charles Town

I have confirmed that 3-year-old Put It Back Martha is dead after breaking down in last night’s 3rd race at Charles Town. She was trained by Juan Vazquez, owned by Liorah Stables, and bred by Bridlewood Farm. She leaves behind no one.

To those who wager on horseracing, we implore you to reconsider. And ultimately, you hold all the cards: no more bets, no more races; no more races, no more kills. And, no more separating foals and moms, no more abusing unformed bodies, no more confining, no more whipping, no more drugging, no more doping, no more buying and selling and trading and dumping. No more auctions, no more kill-buyers, no more transport trucks, no more abattoirs. No more pain, no more suffering. No more.

In a landscape that abounds with other gambling options – casinos, lotteries, real sports involving autonomous human beings – hasn’t the time at long last arrived to let the racing horse be? You, the bettor, have within the capacity for mercy. We ask only that you exercise it. Please. For the horses.

  1. This is somewhat personal for me because several weeks ago I found a great home for a beautiful filly by Put It Back, the sire of the 3yr. old filly killed at Charles Town. And there are other connections which I will not mention. Put It Back is now in Brazil. Suffice to say I despise this business.

    RIP Put It Back Martha.

  2. Rose…thank you so much for making certain that little filly is safe. It’s quite ironic actually…the racing apologists claiming how most of the horses in this industry land in good places, and that things are not nearly as bad as reported here!…and yet, simply LOOK at who are the ones looking out for the horses and taking on the responsibility of finding them homes after they been discarded. We are. Just consider the larger number of slaughtered TB’s if it were not for the non-race public that works diligently to place racing’s throw-aways.
