Things to be Used, Abused – Destroyed

Further details on some of the West Virginia dead.

Final eight races for Richard Hanna-owned Elena’s Dreamboy:
July 4, 2014, claiming at Penn – last of 6
August 1, claiming at Penn – 8th of 9
August 15, claiming at Penn – last of 9
September 4, claiming at Penn – 5th of 7
September 20, claiming at Penn – last of 5
December 18, claiming at Penn – last of 8
January 17, 2015, claiming at Penn – last of 11, 55 lengths back
March 18, claiming at Mountaineer – “bad step” – “Humanely Destroyed.”

Final three races for Gennadi Dorochenko-trained Maratik:
November 8, 2014 – 10th of 11, “faltered”
April 11, 2015 – “distanced,” DNF
May 2, Mountaineer – “broke down after the wire” – “Humanely Destroyed.”

A mere nine days after Jose Ramirez-trained, Francisco Ramirez-owned Starlits Touch finished almost 20 lengths back in a $5,000 claiming race at Mountaineer, the 53-start “veteran” was brought back for another $5,000 claiming at that same track: “took a bad step” – “Humanely Destroyed.”

When Thunder Bonnet was loaded into the paddock for a $5,000 maiden-claiming race at Mountaineer on May 30, she had been inactive for almost a year. Perhaps relevant, perhaps not. In any event, she died that day: “flipped in paddock,” shattered leg – “Humanely Destroyed.”

This is horseracing.

  1. The only way it will stop is to shut it down. The 3 most effective ways to shut down horse racing or greatly reduce it is: 1.Support DECOUPLING which will essentially cut-off major financial funding from casinos thereby reducing purse money by significant amounts to the point where they can’t keep horses in training. 2. Write your politicians to ensure that no taxpayer funds goes to horse racing. 3. Cancel the Interstate Horse Wagering/Wire Act which allows massive amounts of money to be traded all over North America (possibly Caribbean) with NO accountability, no taxes resulting in billions being made.
Throughout this entire scenario it’s the racehorses that are paying with their lives.
This business can’t financially survive without leeching off of some other money source. If it’s not the horses they are leeching from it’s other businesses.
Thinus, calling Trainers is a good idea, but essentially it’s the racing commission that has the authority to deny entries into races. The fact that these racetracks are allowing these racehorses to enter and run (based on their PP’s) is blatant animal cruelty. They are the ones promoting the pain, suffering, maiming, and killing of racehorses on the racetracks.
So calling the racing commissions to express your outrage is a good thing as well.
