“Humanely Destroyed” and Two Other Kills in NY

The Equibase note for 8-year-old Anchorwoman in the 7th yesterday at Finger Lakes: “…appeared in distress at the top of the lane, pulled up and then was humanely destroyed.” The Commission, as per usual, assures that an “investigation [will] follow.” Absurd, of course: Anchorwoman was a cheap horse (“For Sale” at $5,000 pre-death) running at cheap Finger Lakes; she finished 5th or below in her final 11 completed races – all but two of which were low “claiming” at equally cheap tracks. In other words, she was a nothing; they could not care less how or why she “broke down.”

Also – the Gaming Commission reports that 6-year-old Xtreme Marine was killed in the 7th at Buffalo Raceway Saturday when “another horse caught wheel of [his] sulky” and his leg was shattered. But rest easy – the “sulkies [were] not damaged.”

Finally, 8-year-old Smile a Little died from an undisclosed reason at Tioga Downs Friday. He was last raced five days prior.

This is horseracing.

  1. Horse racing is nothing but a cruelty circus, and death camp.
So sorry for ANCHORWOMAN, XTREME MARINE, SMILE A LITTLE – more victims of this despicable slavery ring.
How can this be going on in the 21st century?
Moreover, how can people be so inept to actually support/ participate in this cruelty circus, and death camp thinking that it’s okay?
    It’s not okay.
It’s never okay when a voiceless sentiment being dies in the dirt for $2 bets.

    • Human beings no longer have an abiding consciousness of their own souls, so how could they perceive and respect the soul-nature of other sentient species?

  2. Patrick…the commission actually reported that the SULKIES weren’t damaged? Really? Unbelievable.

RIP Anchorwoman, Xtreme Marine and Smile a Little – your dismal existences are over. How I wish all of you could have experienced the life of a beloved four-legged family member.
