The Casualties, 1/9/17-1/15/17

Last week on American tracks (not including training and harness casualties):

“Broke Down” (racing-speak for dead); “Collapsed and Died”; “Euthanized”

Ground Control, Charles Town
Discreet Duke, Penn
Copingaway, Gulfstream
Creeker’s Cat, Oaklawn

“Vanned Off” – required horse ambulance to get off the track; many of these names will re-surface on my year-end FOIA death-reports

Funny Smoke, Turf
Rebellious Diana, Turf
Super Rich, Mahoning
Winter Storm, Sunland
Karen for Cam, Oaklawn
Germain’s Boy, Oaklawn
Three Sheets, Turfway
Divine Kaleb, Fair Grounds
Genuine Smarty Chick, Sunland
Deer Decarchy, Turf
Storm Power, Turf
Rampant Rhythm, Fair Grounds

“Bled”; “Returned Bleeding From Nostrils” – usually indicates pulmonary hemorrhage

  1. This business has been getting away with killing horses for so long now, with ZIPPO accountability and repercussions, that they just keep doing it.
There is no deterrent to change their ways, and they certainly aren’t altruistically motivated.
They self manage, and are unanswerable to outside animal organizations.
There is no neutral organization over looking these deaths – none.
So “business as usual” continues with the dying racehorses piling up in the dirt.
