  1. Hi Patrick – is there a way the tracks will let you know if the van offs are dead? I saw Jet for Yonders race – that horse literally cartwheeled end over end – can’t imagine he made it. And not to be gruesome- but saw Dickens’ race – rewatched it on video – when the horse started to slow down- the jockey stood up – then sat back down to drive him through the turn and when he came around the turn – it looked like his front leg gave out. Can’t imagine he made it either.

    • Great question SD.
It’s my understanding that they are vanning-off horses to the corner cobwebs of the stable area so that the euthanasia can take place out of the public’s eye when they can.
This of course takes care of the death statistics and/or reporting because horses who die in the stable area are usually not reported because technically they weren’t on the track.
Then their is the racetrack “climate” depending on who owns the tracks.
We see patterns of deliberate hiding of the facts whether that’s denying a Race Replay where a horse breaksdown or only releasing a replay when the camera angle doesn’t show a horse dying in the dirt.
Nevertheless, it’s all gruesome, and this blood bath is happening every day on racetracks all over America.

    • Unfortunately, I have found track officials difficult to reach and/or largely unwilling/unable to confirm deaths. My year-end FOIA requests clear up much, but not all, of the uncertainty.

  2. Dying in the dirt for abusers, and enablers of the abuse.
    This is pure evil.
There’s no other way to classify it.
All of this suffering, and dying conducted under the guise of mint juleps, fancy hats, and party atmosphere.
Even the state of Kentucky turning their backs on the racehorses by ensuring that they are stripped of ALL protections.
The state of Kentucky has now classified racehorses as LIVESTOCK.
This shows their true colors, that the racehorses are there to be exploited, used, abused, and turned into a profit slave as they see fit.
This will ensure ZIPPO accountability, and any protection under the law.
In order for an evil and despicable business to carry on there must be evil and despicable people supporting it.
The Bill passed yesterday leaves no doubt that Kentucky doesn’t give a damn about the racehorses who have generated billions of dollars for that state.
This is the thanks they get, and this is why NOBODY should support it.

  3. So now the Kentucky Governor will sign the Bill to classify racehorses as livestock.
Aside from the smoke and mirrors, make no doubt about it, this Bill is intentionally designed to uphold the continued cruelty, inhumane treatment, and dying of racehorses on Kentucky racetracks with no accountability.
A few excerpts from the supporter of SORING Sen. Webb:
” primarily to separate them from companion animal designation.”
” Animal rights groups desire companion or pet status to make it difficult to own or use an animal.”
    There you have it.
They want to use, abuse, and kill racehorses with no protection afforded to them while this is going on.
Then they had one of the biggest enablers of horse abuse Ray Paulick who ingratiated himself to Webb:
“Senator Webb: Thank you for clarifying this for our readers and for your support of a horse industry that I know you love.”
Just a reminder that Sen. Webb supported one of the biggest abusers of Tennessee Walking horses who was caught on tape beating a TIED UP horse in the face. This was a horse who had endured acid burning into his fetlock joints, chains, and pads. He was so mentally abused that he didn’t want anybody touching him.
So the man that Webb supports beat the horse in the face, and she actually DEFENDED this abuser.
    That says it all.
Sen. Webb there’s a special place in hell for people like you.
