    • It means that the horse is unable to walk off the track due to its injury, so they’re forced onto a horse ambulance which is a horse trailer and taken out the back. Most of the time these horses are euthanased. Of those that aren’t, the ones that are of no use to racing anymore are discarded and usually end up at a kill auction where the owner receives $$$ for the final destruction of the horse. The ultimate betrayal when the horse gave his all to his connections and the horseracing industry.
There are of course only a few who escape euthanasia and the slaughterhouse.
Many horses that are forced onto the ambulance (vanned off) are in excruciating pain with such injuries as comminuted fractures in their legs, broken pelvis, broken shoulder, etc. and a broken mind, traumatized, in shock and in fear. In lieu of putting the horse out of its misery on the track, they callously van them off. Not a good look to put up a screen and euthanase in full view of the crowd, they prefer to hide their dirty ugly deeds.
      This is horseracing.

  1. Bellastime at Emerald just took a funny step when pulled up and hauled off as a precaution. X-rayed clean, alive and well.
