“Severe Injuries” Kill Horse at Del Mar

On the (Equibase) chart for the 3rd yesterday at Del Mar, Prohibition “took a bad step in midstretch and was pulled up and vanned off.” In fact, says the Daily Racing Form, the 7-year-old is dead – “injuries were so severe he has been euthanized.” This kill was not entirely unforeseeable: In his final eight finishes, beginning in March ’16, Prohibition came in last (36+ lengths back); 9th of 10 (25+ back); 8th of 10; 7th of 8 (14+ back); last; last (15+ back); 11th of 12 (18+ back); and 8th of 10 (15+ back).

Cool as ever.

    • Yes, Joy. It would be interesting to see what an INDEPENDENT necropsy would show.
Poor horse. Like countless others in this game, he was doomed. This business has a lot to answer for. The trouble is nobody is asking the questions.!

  1. Another innocent noble equine has his life stolen from him.
These deaths that Patrick lists virtually on a daily basis are outrageous.
Makes me ashamed to be a human being.
And the racing industry carries on regardless.
    They don’t give a damn.

  2. PROHIBITION OBITUARY
Bred for profit, viewed as a profit machine, and died generating profit for this vile business.
Right from the start he generated $120,000 and $40,000 respectively at the sales.
He then begun his treacherous life as a profit slave as he continued to generate $229,303.
Like most, he started out rather well, but the ongoing physical and/or mental ailments seemed to become an issue like most all racehorses.
Then the doping, joint injections, tranquilizers probably followed.
His PP’s are clear evidence that he was made to suffer to boost money/egos – these things are an inevitable part of his life as a racehorse.
The supposedly “loving” and “caring” connections continued to perpetrate this abuse on him, and the enablers of the abuse (commissions, supporters) just continued to look on.
Typical racehorse scenario, and now comes the Finale – dead in the dirt.
You are in my thoughts today like so many others that have died before you.
I implore you to stop patronizing this vile business.

  3. who is the genius / “trainer” of this poor dead soldier ? the Veterinarians are SICKER then the entire rest of this group of sicko’s, who take no oath to protect & care for their charges, as these murderers are the ones who stick the 4-6 types of drugs that are injected into EVERY RACE HORSE THAT ENTERS A STARTING GATE TO RACE.
They take an OATH , same as a Dr. takes to “DO NO HARM” – this oath comes directly from the AMERICAN VETERINARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATIONS WEBSITE

    Veterinarian’s Oath

“Being admitted to the profession of veterinary medicine, I solemnly swear to use my scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society through the protection of animal health and welfare, the prevention and relief of animal suffering, the conservation of animal resources, the promotion of public health, and the advancement of medical knowledge.

I will practice my profession conscientiously, with dignity, and in keeping with the principles of veterinary medical ethics.

I accept as a lifelong obligation the continual improvement of my professional knowledge and competence.”

SO THEY ARE QUIET OBVIOUSLY THE SICKEST BUNCH OF THEM ALL – ALL RACETRACK VETERINARIANS SHOULD LOSE THEIR LICENSES FOR BREAKING THIS OATH , BECAUSE THEY ALL BREAK IT ABOUT 37 TIMES A DAY.Then go home & count their money they made doing it . DISGUSTING.

  4. It’s all about the MONEY!!! Hey, I know. I lived right above the racetrack in Del Mar. I’ve even ridden my horse on the track and then onto the beach under HWY 1. Bute, short for Butazolidin. Just one of the many drugs to keep the horses running. It’s disgusting.
