Arunachala Dead at Santa Anita; A Four-Day Colic Death at Belmont

I have confirmed that Arunachala is dead after breaking down in the 5th at Santa Anita Friday. Arunachala was three years old; this was her fourth time under the whip.

Also, the NYS Gaming Commission reports that a horse named “Doc” died at Belmont Thursday “from impaction colic of approximately 4 days duration.” Four days. Horrific. At the time of his death, the Commission says, Doc “[was being] used as a pony.” And that’s that – made, used, killed. Horseracing.

  1. 😲MG! How could anyone comment on this atrocity! 😠 πŸ‡ 😠 ~ πŸ’”πŸ˜’πŸŽπŸ˜’πŸ΄πŸ˜’πŸ’”

  2. Allowing a horse to suffer with colic for “approximately 4 days” and then die – no mention of him being euthanized – is animal cruelty.
I wonder what the water situation was for the horse during the deep freeze of well over a week.

    • Exactly – animal cruelty at it’s worst! We must be active in helping to end/ban this cruel “sport,” which is NOT A SPORT AT ALL, but a “billion or trillion” dollar “global industry,” which lines the pockets of the wealthiest 1% and those who are active participants in the evils of the “DARK SIDE!” Just saying….

  3. This is the suffering that we know about, but what about the thousands of racehorses who are probably suffering in their stalls right now?
    There is ZIPPO neutral oversight.
They hide the suffering behind fancy hats, and the “entertainment” banner.
How can this be going on in the 21st century?
Arunachala you will not die in vain.
We will continue to be a voice for racehorses like you.

  4. For many years I enjoyed watching horse races on television, but I would always end up yelling at the TV when the jockeys started whipping the horses. Since reading Patrick’s blog about all the abuse/deaths of these lovely animals, just so some jackass can make some money, I can no longer watch any race on TV. I will continue to speak out, share these ungodly stories and hope that with enough people fighting for the rights of these horses one day it will stop. It’s a disgrace that people will do ANYTHING for the almighty dollar.
