Old Dubai Killed at Belmont

This from the NYS Gaming Commission, Belmont, January 19: “Old Dubai fell at 7/8 pole breezing on training track, subsequently euthanized on track due to compound fracture.” He was three and had been raced five times.

  1. And this statement from a racing apologist….”Run free beautiful boy. Carrots and mints galore await you.” There you have it. A “baby” dead in the dirt but not to worry because carrots and mints (lots of them) are on the other side. How anyone, with an ounce of compassion, can continue to support an industry that cripples, maims, and kills DAILY never ceases to amaze me.

  2. OLD DUBAI – so sorry for you.
This is one example of a “royally-bred” racehorse that ended up dead in the dirt just like any other.
O.D.’s mare, Dubai Escapade, was purchased for 2 million, made $427,000 on the track, and then was bred to Tapit for $300,000.
So the ultra rich oil sheik had about 2.5 million invested before O.D. even hit the floor of his stall when born.
My point is, rich or poor, “royally-bred” or not, ALL racehorses are subjected to the mandatory operating procedures of this vile business, and ALL are subjected to being possibly maimed and/or killed.
Apologists often claim that only the “cheap” horses get maimed and/or killed(as if this makes a difference) – nothing could be further away from the truth.
Furthermore, many of the “cheap” claimers started out like O.D. and get quickly dumped when they don’t perform at the upper levels.
These pro-horse racing supporters think that million dollar farms with million dollar purchases makes everything okay – it’s NOT okay, and there is no amount of money that can ever justify the maiming and/or dying of racehorses on a daily basis.
The delusional apologists are void of compassion, and so is anyone who supports this vile business.
