At least four racehorses were killed on American tracks yesterday…
In the 4th at Gulfstream, 5-year-old Coxswain “broke down” and according to multiple sources, was euthanized on the track (Equibase merely had “fell, vanned off”).
the “incident,” in the words of the track announcer, that “marred” the 4th race
A couple hours later – 2-year-old Onde Ah Mo was “pulled up, vanned off” in the 1st at Santa Anita and, I can confirm, was euthanized.
A couple hours later – 6-year-old The Truth Or Else “died suddenly,” multiple sources report, right after finishing some 80 lengths back in the 8th at Turfway.
A couple hours later – Cash Prize broke after the finish of the 7th at Golden Gate. Dead. But all was not lost – the 4-year-old “placed,” winning $13,000 for her people.
And from Friday: Threefortyfive was euthanized after “lameness [broken cannon bone] was detected a day after galloping” (Gaming Commission) at Aqueduct. Just three, Threefortyfive was already on his third owner.
That’s five more of our fellow sentient beings killed – for gambling. Enough, America.
