A Kill at Northville Downs – But the Good News Is That Michigan Racing Is Hanging by a Thread

Through a FOIA request to the Michigan Gaming Control Board, I have confirmed the following kill at Northville Downs July 21:

Ounce Hanover – “fractured front leg”

Please note that Michigan is down to a solitary racetrack – a harness one at that. Below are the seven – yes, seven – Michigan tracks that have closed just since 2000:

Saginaw Valley Downs, closed 2005 after 25 years of racing
Great Lakes Downs, closed 2007 after 18 years of racing
Jackson Harness Raceway, closed 2008 after 60 years of racing
Pinnacle Race Course, closed 2010 after 2 years of racing
Mount Pleasant Meadows, closed 2013 after 28 years of racing
Sports Creek Raceway, closed 2015 after 28 years of racing
Hazel Park, closed 2018 after 69 years of racing

Progress.

  1. It is good new that they are down to one track but still another life taken over another leg fracture. What in the hell is the matter with people are they really that stupid or ignorant or uncaring about the animals. People we need all of the tracks to close everywhere – horse racing, harness racing should all be ended because of the total abuse and slaughter of our gorgeous horses. We all know that it is only about the almighty dollar each and every time. The horses are abused steadily and killed steadily because they are too young and their bodies not developed enough to handle this racing abuse. May the people involved all have the same treatment applied to them in the way of any type of bodily abuse – that would so work for me. You are all killers and abusers and hopefully each and every one of you have a really bad “judgment day.” God cares for all of his animals and we should as well. We are not put here on earth to abuse any of them, it is just not our place to do this. So why have so many of you not figured this out??????????????
