“Pulled up in Distress, Euthanized on Track” at Gulfstream; “Collapsed and Died” at Belmont

The 4-year-old Pop’s Irish Rose in the 9th at Gulfstream yesterday, as relayed by Equibase: “POP’S IRISH ROSE began to make move around far turn, quickly pulled up in distress and euthanized on track.” ‘Twas her 23rd time under the whip.

Tuesday at Belmont, the NYS Gaming Commission reports, “For Pops collapsed and died on the training track from an apparent cardiovascular event.” For Pops was also four – still in equine puberty – “collapsed and died.”

This is horseracing.
