  1. Barbara – vanned off means they have to be removed from the track in a horse ambulance or trailer, because they were too injured or incapacitated to walk off on their own. If Patrick also tabulated horses that fall, are injured, or are in distress, but are somehow capable, or forced to, walk off under their own power, this list would be tripled. This industry is so destructive to the horses that it’s mind boggling.

  2. Disgusting that “Drug” O’Neill has the gall to suggest Santa Anita was ever “safe” for thoroughbreds. Creeps like him are the biggest reason that horse racing needs to be banned completely; As an industry, they are unable/unwilling to police themselves for the betterment of their equine athletes. He, himself, with his multiple doping violations (like nearly EVERY “trainer” at EVERY track) should have been banned — and imprisoned for animal cruelty — many years ago. But, sadly, this “sport” always finds a way to celebrate its most degenerate offenders.
