6-year-old The Program, trained and owned by Ronny Werner, was killed in yesterday afternoon’s 8th race at Fair Grounds. This, after he “came under a drive [from jockey Brian Hernandez Jr] in [the] upper stretch.” The race was of the $5,000 claiming variety. Just another expendable asset expended.

Also, on Wednesday, 2-year-old Changeinaction, with but one start under his belt, broke a leg “breezing” on Belmont’s training track and was killed where he lay. The equine child was trained by Dominic Galluscio and owned by Bob Petersons Stables. This marks Galluscio’s sixth death on NY tracks since 2009 – three racing, three training.

5-year-old Sound of Drums, reported as vanned off after Saturday’s 7th race at Aqueduct, in fact fractured two sesamoids and is dead. This is trainer Chris Englehart’s 24th (21 racing or training) NY death since 2009. Sound of Drums was owned by My Purple Haze Stables.

Monday afternoon at Louisiana Downs, 3-year-old Aggressive Prize, claimed (bought) before the race for $5,000, was killed on-track. Her trainer and owner of record were Ray Mayo and Shelly Van Ness. Previous trainers include Phillip Calais Jr and Imad Bitar; previous owners, Casey Calais and Phillip Calais Jr. This is horseracing.

I was able to confirm that 5-year-old Giant Indian, listed as broke down in Wednesday’s 7th race at Laurel Park, was indeed killed. This was his second start under trainer Chris Englehart and owner Ralph Perrone, having recently (December) been purchased for $16,000. This is horseracing.
