Through a FOIA request to the Wyoming Pari-Mutuel Commission, I have confirmed the following kills at Wyoming tracks in 2016:

Hrh Burning Corona, July 17, Wyoming Downs 6, “collapsed and died – aneurysm”
Ima Polaris, September 17, Energy Downs 8, “bad step at wire – slab fracture”

In addition, the following horse died on track grounds from what the industry calls a “non-racing” cause. While this may be technically true, morally he is no less a casualty of this vile business than the ones above.

Patriot Joe, September 16, Energy Downs, “colic”
(last raced July 31)

There can be no justification for the killing of animals for $2 bets. End it. Now.

Through a Wyoming “Sunshine Law” request, I have confirmed the death of 7-year-old First Down Man in the 4th race at Wyoming Downs last June 22. On the charts, First Down Man was merely said to have “clipped heels, vanned off.” While true that the chartwriter may not have known the severity of the injury when submitting his notes, not another word was written on this horse – not on Equibase, not on the WD website, not on the Commission website. Nothing, until now. They deceive and cover up because they have to. This is horseracing.
