Shuttered U.S. Racetracks (Since 2000)

The following U.S. racetracks have closed since 2000. In this same time span, to my knowledge only three new tracks have opened: Mahoning in Ohio (but that could be viewed as an even swap for the deceased Beulah), Pinnacle in Michigan – which, as you’ll see below, closed after only two years – and Presque Isle in Pennsylvania. It must be noted, however, that both Mahoning and Presque are racinos – basically, casinos with legally-mandated horse tracks attached. In other words, the demand for the racing product itself is going in one direction. In other words, progress.
